Tasmanian Artist, Lyn Stares.

Hi my name is Lynette Stares, but everyone calls me Lyn. In 1989 I moved to North West Tasmania from N.S.W with my husband and two young sons and this is where my story begins.

I have always loved drawing and  have always admired  artists and their work. My wish has always been to be an artist and make my living from art.  But raising 4 sons (yes we had another two sons ) and  holding down casual work while living on a small farm my dreams just had to wait .  So in 2003 as my youngest son headed to Grade 5, I headed to TAFE to study full time. Two years later I attained my ” Art Craft and Design Diploma ” majoring in painting. The course covered all aspects of drawing, painting and print making. I loved every second of the 2 years. I learnt  so much, and through the course I was  offered work as a face painter at our local weekend Market, and now Face painting  takes me all over Tasmania and across Bass Strait. From December through to April I work on a passenger ferry that travels between Devonport Tasmania and Melbourne Victoria.  Creature Tales is the company I work for and Creature  Tales entertains  and educates people about Tasmanian wildlife and it’s environment  through the arts. It’s a lot of fun I really enjoy this work.

I also do Air brush Tattoos and have created some of my own stencil designs.  Face painting and Air Brush Tattoos  provide me with a small  income which allows me to follow my passion and paint.

I still attend art classes  every week at the Burnie Coastal Art Group with the wonderful Abstract Artist Margret Brown . I’m also the correspondence secretary for the Burnie Coastal Art Group.  At the Moment the  Burnie Coastal Art Group is about to curates it’s major exhibit TasArt! TasArt is in it’s 31st year and is being held at the Burnie Regional Art Gallery from the 26th September to 18th of October. TasArt attracts artist from all over Tasmania, the mainland and this year we have two entries from Canada.  Don’t miss out, come and see the amazing artwork.
